Welcome to the 2025 Trans-Murray Matchplay Event.

This event is always one of our most fun and action-packed tournaments, so we are thrilled to have you on board!

As with the famous Ryder Cup, play will take place over three days with three formats. We will have a day of pairs playing 2-Ball Ambrose Matchplay, a day of pairs playing a hybrid Foursomes/Ambrose format (“TMMP Foursomes”) and the final day of singles matchplay. The team with the most matches won over the three days will be crowned champions.

See Above Tabs/Menu for all relevant information of the week.

Event Itinerary

Wednesday, Feb 5th

For those arriving on Wednesday, SGA will be hosting a small function in the Mantra Bar from 4:30-7:00pm.  SGA will be handing out Team Apparel, and hosting some nibbles.

Thursday February 6

Course:             Federal GC

Tee Time:          11:40am 2-Tee start

The group photo will be taken at the start of the player briefing prior to tee off. Please wear your team shirt and cap to the course on the day.

Format: Two-Ball Ambrose Matchplay – Teams of two playing Two-ball Ambrose Matchplay. Each Ambrose pair posts a stroke score for each hole and the best stroke score wins the hole. If the stroke score from each team is the same, the hole is halved. If the two teams have the same handicap, they play off scratch together. If a team has one more shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole. Two shots difference = a shot on the two hardest holes and so on. SGA will aim to match teams with similar handicaps in the draw so there are very few shots given.

After golf: If time allows, Post-game drinks can be purchased. Then head back to the hotel.

Friday, February 7

Course:             Gold Creek GC

Tee Time:          9:30am Shotgun Start

Format: The TMMP Foursomes – Each player from both teams tees off and team-mates then swap balls and hit their partner’s ball for the second shot. After two shots, the best ball of the two is chosen. From there, the player who did not hit the last shot plays a shot and the ball is played in alternate shot format (as in foursomes) from there on until the ball is holed.

This means that the ball that is played from the tee to the hole was hit alternately by the two team-mates throughout the hole. On all shots, preferred lie within one hand-span is in play in all cuts (fairway, rough, green etc.) This means if players are precious about playing their own brand of ball, they can switch to their own ball for all their shots on the hole.

Handicaps are calculated by adding the two daily handicaps and dividing by two. If teams have the same handicap, they play off scratch together. If a team has one shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole on the matchplay index and so on. Team captains will aim to match teams with similar handicaps so there are very few shots given. The team with the lowest nett stroke score wins the hole.

After golf: Post-golf function in the Mantra Bar from 4:30-7:00pm.  SGA will be hosting some nibbles (Spring Rolls, Samosas and Chips), and there will be a variety of beverages (Beer, Wine and Soft Drinks) available for purchase.

Saturday, February 8

Course:             Gungahlin Lakes

Tee Time:          From 11:38am (Two-Tee start)

Format: Singles Matchplay – Players play the hole against their nominated opponent; the player with the lowest nett stroke score wins the hole.  If the score is the same, the hole is halved.

After golf: Though we will be using Golf Genius for scoring, if weather or technology requires the use of scorecards, then please hand in your scorecard to SGA staff after golf so we can tally results.

After your scores have been checked and submitted, please make your way to the downstairs lounge at Gungahlin Lakes.  Once the last group has completed their round, the results will be tallied and the presentation held.

SGA is supplying food for players to enjoy while we tabulate the scores and determine the winners. Drinks and bevvies are at player’s expense – please enjoy with your playing partners & pals.
